The Oltrepo Pavese comprises the hilly and mountainous territory of the province of Pavia, the only section of the Apennines in the Lombardy region. It owes its name to its unique location south of the River Po, right in the heart of the Northern Apennines, literally wedged between Emilia-Romagna to the east and Piedmont to the west. In the southernmost part, just a few kilometres into the provinces of Alessandria or Piacenza, lies the border with Liguria, more specifically with the metropolitan city of Genoa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
