The L3S research centre will be taking part in the Europe Day celebrations on 11 May at Opernplatz with its own initiative. The event takes place on the eve of the European elections and is organised by the Hanover Region, the city of Hanover and the European Information Centre of Lower Saxony.
Together with the Niedersächsischer Heimatbund (NHB), L3S is presenting a collaboration with the Italian-German Cultural Society (DIK) and the August Kestner Museum, highlighting various aspects of cooperation with Italy, an EU member state.
In particular, L3S will present multidisciplinary European projects. The Heimatbund will present a citizen science project between Lower Saxony and Oltrepò Pavese (Italy), focusing on biodiversity.
As part of Europe Day, L3S and the Heimatbund aim to involve citizens in citizen science surveys and are providing two apps that make it easy to identify trees, snails and molluscs. In addition, the results of the surveys of Lower Saxony’s tree-lined avenues will be displayed on a screen.
To highlight the collaboration with the Oltrepò Pavese region (https://www.galoltreposrl.it/), there will be stories from the Oltrepò area with Davide Ferrari.
A language workshop exploring Italian words that unite Europe. A linguistic exploration inspired by migration (a fun workshop for adults and children) Organised by Davide Ferrari.
- Oltrepó BioDiverso (http://www.attivaree-oltrepobiodiverso.it/oltrepobiodiverso/il-progetto/): An introduction to ecotourism in the Oltrepó region, featuring various itineraries taking in the area’s natural points of interest (e.g. nature reserves, protected species, amphibian ponds, educational gardens, etc.); Presentation of the Butterfly Trails with a workshop on identifying butterflies and moths.
